🇺🇸 Study in United States

The widest choice of universities and the biggest scholarships on earth

The United States has more universities, more scholarships and more research funding than anywhere else, which makes it both the land of opportunity and the place students most need honest guidance to navigate. From the Ivy League to excellent state universities, there is a US option for almost every profile, and STEM graduates get up to three years of work rights through OPT.

Why the USA, and who it suits

The scale of American higher education is its greatest strength. Whatever your field, there is likely a strong programme, often with generous funding, if you know where to look. For ambitious students, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the US can be transformative.

It suits students who want breadth, research strength and the chance of significant scholarships, and who are prepared to prepare early. The application process is more involved than most countries, with tests and essays, so it rewards planning.

  • The largest range of universities and programmes in the world
  • Huge scholarship and assistantship funding, especially at postgraduate level
  • STEM graduates get up to three years of work through OPT
  • World-leading research, particularly in technology and science
  • A flexible system that lets you explore before specialising

What it really costs, in rupees

US costs vary enormously between public and private universities, and scholarships change the picture dramatically. The ranges below are indicative before any funding, which for strong students can be substantial.

CostPer year (USD)Roughly in PKR
Tuition, public universities$20,000 to $35,000PKR 5.6m to 9.8m
Tuition, private universities$35,000 to $55,000PKR 9.8m to 15.4m
Living costs$12,000 to $18,000PKR 3.4m to 5.0m
Health insurance$1,500 to $2,500PKR 420k to 700k

Funding changes everything in the USA

Sticker prices look frightening, but scholarships, assistantships and fee waivers can cut them dramatically, especially for postgraduates. We build your list around net cost after funding, not the headline number.

Universities and the funding game

Students we have guided study at institutions including the Illinois Institute of Technology. Across the US, the key is to target universities where your profile is competitive and where funding is realistic for someone from Pakistan.

At master's and PhD level, teaching and research assistantships can cover much of your tuition and living costs in exchange for work on campus. These are competitive but very much within reach for strong students, and finding them is a core part of what we do.

OPT and working after study

Optional Practical Training lets you work in your field after graduation, for twelve months, extended by a further twenty-four months for STEM graduates, giving up to three years in total. That is a serious runway to gain US experience and, for some, a path to longer-term work visas.

On campus you can usually work up to twenty hours a week during term. As always, part-time work supports your living costs but should never be your plan for paying tuition.

Tests, essays and the F-1 visa

US applications usually require standardised tests and well-written essays, and the process starts early. After you receive an offer and your I-20 form, you apply for the F-1 student visa, which includes an interview at the US mission. Preparation for that interview is essential, and it is something we take you through carefully.

  • Standardised tests where required, plus English proficiency
  • Strong essays that show fit and motivation
  • An offer and I-20 form from your university
  • Clear financial evidence for the F-1 visa
  • Thorough interview preparation for the US mission

Intakes and timelines

The main intake is Fall, starting around August or September, with a Spring intake in January at many universities. Because tests and funding applications take time, US-bound students should ideally start twelve months ahead of their intended intake.

Competitive but genuinely winnable for strong students, especially at master's and PhD level through assistantships. Applying early and well is what makes the difference.
